Mommy Makeover

RESTORE YOUR PRE-BABY FIGURE

Having a baby is one of the most miraculous things your body can do. But nine months of pregnancy can wreak havoc on your figure. If you’re finished having children, there’s something that can help get your body back to its pre-baby glory. A mommy makeover is a surgical procedure that focuses on all the areas of your body that were affected by pregnancy. It is a highly personalized procedure that is designed just for you to address your exact needs and goals, helping you to look and feel confident and comfortable in your appearance.

WHAT IS A MOMMY MAKEOVER?

A mommy makeover is a single procedure that targets the areas of the body that are commonly stretched during pregnancy. The areas for surgery are the breasts and nipples, abdomen, and waist. Though each of these procedures can be performed separately, during a mommy makeover, they are done together to reduce cost and recovery time after surgery.

A mommy makeover is a versatile and highly customizable procedure that is tailored to address your exact needs, goals and preferences. The changes your body goes through during pregnancy are unique, and our goal is to develop a personalized treatment plan to help you feel like yourself again. Below are some of the surgical options that are often performed as part of a mommy makeover.

Standard Procedures

Breast Augmentation – The breasts change dramatically due to pregnancy and breastfeeding. The tissues stretch as the breasts grow, and hormonal changes can leave them feeling deflated. Breast augmentation, with or without a breast lift, can transform the appearance of your breasts by inserting the implants of your choice, giving you a fuller, larger and more projected look.

Breast Lift – During pregnancy, the breasts often swell and grow larger, causing the skin to stretch. After breastfeeding, the breasts may also lose volume and firmness, leading to a droopy appearance. A breast lift, or mastopexy, can address these issues by removing excess skin, reshaping the breasts and moving them to a higher position on the chest. A breast lift can be combined with breast augmentation to provide even more fullness and volume.

Liposuction – Weight gain during pregnancy is common, and some stubborn fat deposits may remain for months after giving birth despite a healthy diet and exercise. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that effectively targets and removes localized fat deposits. When included as part of a mommy makeover, liposuction of the flanks can refine your body shape to help you achieve a more proportionate figure.

Abdominoplasty – The abdominal area often undergoes significant changes during pregnancy, resulting in loose skin, stretch marks and separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti) that leave a stubborn bulge behind. A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is designed to eliminate loose, sagging skin and tighten the abdominal muscles to create a firmer midsection. This procedure helps restore a flatter and more toned abdomen, enhancing your overall body contour.

Common Add-Ons

Labiaplasty – Giving birth can affect the appearance of your vulva, causing your labia to stretch or sag. Vaginal rejuvenation procedures such as labiaplasty can improve the aesthetics and functional aspects of the vaginal area to enhance your comfort, confidence and sexual satisfaction.

Nipple Reduction – Changes in the breasts following pregnancy and breastfeeding can also affect the shape or size of the nipples. Nipple reduction is a surgical procedure that reduces the size of the nipples to create a more proportionate and aesthetically pleasing appearance. This procedure may be performed in conjunction with other breast surgeries, such as a lift or augmentation, to enhance the overall look of your breasts.

Other Procedures – In addition to the procedures mentioned above, your mommy makeover might incorporate a variety of other treatments depending on your specific needs. This may include body contouring procedures, or cellulite treatment. Our expert team can design a mommy makeover that addresses your concerns and helps you achieve beautiful results.

AM I A CANDIDATE?

If you’re finished having children and want to reclaim tighter, firmer and more youthful body contours, a mommy makeover is for you. Many of the changes that occur after pregnancy and breastfeeding can’t be addressed through diet and exercise, but a mommy makeover can help you achieve your goals with a highly personalized treatment plan designed just for you.

If you’re bothered by the following concerns, it might be time to think about your rejuvenation options and how they can help you feel comfortable in your own skin again:

  • Breasts that sag or droop
  • Breasts that feel smaller or have no mass
  • Nipples that point downward
  • Areola that are bigger or wider than you would like
  • Excess or skin on the hips or waist
  • A sagging abdomen with a noticeable bulge
  • Stretch marks
  • You’re unhappy with your body after pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • You want to feel confident in your old clothes

To be considered for a mommy makeover, you should be in good overall health with no pre-existing conditions that could impact healing and have realistic expectations about the outcome of your procedures. It’s important to be at or near your ideal weight and to have maintained a stable weight for several months. Non-smokers are preferred candidates, as smoking can complicate both the surgery and the healing process.

Additionally, you should:

  • No longer breastfeeding or planning on having children
  • Be committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle
  • Have a positive outlook and a clear understanding of the potential risks and benefits

A consultation with our experienced team can determine if a mommy makeover is right for you. During your consultation, we will thoroughly evaluate your concerns and medical history, discuss your treatment goals and develop a surgical plan that caters to your specific needs. By taking these steps, you can ensure that your mommy makeover journey is safe, effective and aligned with your desired outcomes.

    HOW DOES IT WORK?

No two mommy makeovers are exactly alike, so your experience will be unique to your needs, concerns and treatment goals. To help you feel prepared and comfortable for your procedure, your surgeon will review the steps in detail and address any questions or concerns you have.

Mommy makeovers are performed at our state-of-the-art surgical facility in Miami, Florida, as an outpatient procedure. Since multiple surgeries are combined into one, a mommy makeover can take several hours to complete. However, this means you’ll have the benefit of a single operation, which means less time off from work and a more streamlined recovery process.

Before your procedure, you’ll want to ensure the following are complete:

    • Book a consultation with your surgeon
    • Finish having children before getting a mommy makeover
    • Take care of all physicals, mammograms, and pap smears
    • Be at a comfortable, manageable weight before surgery since gaining or losing weight can affect your desired outcome
    • Go ahead and pack a hospital bag in case you need to stay. Put comfy items like a good book, hairbows, chapstick, and fun socks inside
    • Set up appropriate childcare for during your surgery and recovery time
    • Ask someone to drive you to and from surgery and monitor you during the first few days after surgery

When the day of your surgery arrives, you’ll want to follow any instructions from your surgery center. This may include avoiding aspirin, abstaining from smoking, and washing with a special soap. Follow instructions closely so you don’t delay or impede your surgery process. Your mommy makeover will be performed in an outpatient surgery center or a hospital.

On the day of your surgery, you will meet with your anesthesia team to discuss the best methods for your surgery. For extensive surgeries like a mommy makeover, general anesthesia is used. Next, your surgeon will carefully mark the treatment areas and begin the process of your body transformation once you’re comfortably asleep. Upon completing your procedure, your surgeon will close your incisions and apply special wraps and bandages to prevent blood clots and promote healing. You’ll then be moved to a recovery area and monitored for potential side effects as the anesthesia wears off. You’ll be groggy for a few hours after surgery, so you’ll need to arrange for a ride home with a friend or family member.

    RESULTS*

You’ll be able to notice some results of your surgery right away, but there will be swelling that will last a few weeks to months. Once the swelling goes down, your final outcome will be revealed, and you can expect to be very happy with your new body. Depending on which surgeries were performed as part of your procedure, you can expect a flatter tummy, firmer and more voluminous breasts, proportionate contours and a slimmer, youthful figure.

Future pregnancies can affect the outcome of your procedure, so we strongly recommend scheduling it after you’ve finished having children. During your consultation, our team can determine when it’s the right time for your mommy makeover to ensure the longest-lasting results.

    RECOVERY*

The more procedures you undergo during your mommy makeover, the longer your recovery will be. But you’ll be glad you chose to do it all at once instead of handling multiple recovery periods. When you wake up from surgery, you’ll notice that you’ve been wrapped in compression garments while your incisions heal. If you underwent a breast or abdomen procedure, you should also have a special bra around your breasts and a wrap around your midsection. You’ll have bruising, pain and swelling after surgery, which will take a few weeks to subside. You’ll want to follow your doctor’s post-op instructions for avoiding sexual activity, exercise and heavy lifting for at least six to eight weeks following your mommy makeover.

After your surgery, you should monitor for various side effects that can occur after one of the procedures often performed as part of a mommy makeover, such as:

    • Nausea and vomiting
    • The signs of deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
    • Bleeding or infection at the incision site
    • A post-operative fever
    • Movement of any breast implants
    • Unusual drainage from any incision sites
    • Excessive pain, redness or swelling
    • Pain in other parts of the body
    • Incisions that don’t heal completely
    • Shortness of breath

If you notice any of these symptoms, don’t hesitate to contact our office or seek emergency help at the nearest hospital. While complications are rare, they can occur. Your health and safety are our highest priority, and our team is committed to ensuring a smooth, comfortable recovery.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is a Mommy Makeover Worth It?

Mommy makeovers are known for having one of the highest satisfaction rates among patients. By restoring your pre-baby contours, a mommy makeover can help you feel confident about your appearance again and give you a new outlook on life. The results are long-lasting with a healthy diet and lifestyle, making it one of the most worthwhile procedures to consider.

How Much Time Should I Take Off From Work?

Recovery time varies depending on the combination of procedures performed, but most patients should expect to take about two to three weeks off from work and normal activities. Full recovery, including swelling reduction and final results, may take several months. We will give you detailed post-op instructions to help you heal properly.

    Will My Results Be Permanent?

The results you achieve after a mommy makeover are generally considered long-lasting, especially if you maintain a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle. However, future pregnancies, significant weight fluctuations and the aging process can affect the longevity of your results. It is recommended that you undergo the procedure after you have finished having children for the best possible outcome.

Can I Have All the Procedures Done at Once?

Yes, one of the main benefits of a mommy makeover is that multiple procedures can be combined into a single surgery. This approach minimizes the overall recovery time compared to having each procedure done separately. However, your surgeon will determine the best and safest plan based on your individual needs, health and aesthetic goals.

When Will I See the Final Results of My Mommy Makeover?

You will notice some changes immediately after your surgery, but the final results will become more apparent as the swelling and bruising subside, which can take several weeks to months. The full outcome can typically be seen within six months to a year post-surgery.

    Will I Have Visible Scars?

As with any surgical procedure, mommy makeovers involve incisions, which will result in some scarring. However, our skilled surgeons use advanced techniques to minimize scarring and place incisions in discreet locations whenever possible. Over time, scars typically fade and become less noticeable. Your surgeon will provide detailed post-operative care instructions to help optimize your healing process and reduce the visibility of scars.

How Long Does a Mommy Makeover Take?

The amount of time it takes to complete a mommy makeover ultimately depends on the specific combination of surgeries being performed. Typically, the procedure can take anywhere from three to six hours. Once your surgical plan has been developed, your surgeon can provide you with a more accurate time estimate.

What Are the Risks Associated With This Procedure?

As with any surgery, there are risks associated with a mommy makeover, including infection, bleeding, scarring and complications from anesthesia. Your surgeon will discuss all the potential risks, complications and side effects with you during your consultation and take measures to minimize them.
